About 8 weeks ago, we purchased this diamond in the rough. (rough isn't a strong enough word)
It was so nasty that our work clothes were removed and thrown away before we entered our own home.

This house has CONSUMED our time, but I am proud to say that it is fixed up, rented to some lovely people, and beautiful.

Fine Motor Encouragement

Fine motor has always been a struggle for my precious O. It has been a humbling experience for this preschool teacher too. Several comments have been made by others about my not working with her enough. If you know me, you know that isn't true. She had a paint brush in her hand before she could speak!

With that said, something just clicked this summer, and she has made wonderful progress.

I found this drawing on the counter yesterday. I thought that it was a colorful man. She giggled and said that it was the girl in the book, Stripes.

Last week was a super CRAZY week around our home.

-I finished decorating our "surfing turtle" classroom.
-I met all 17 of my sweet preschoolers.
-A and O had their first full week of school.
-A had his first football practice and his last swim class.
-I started my second part-time job.
-I organized at least 1.000 pieces of felt to be used for teaching darlings Bible stories.
-We sold this rental property. AND bought this one!

Did I mention that I filled a dumpster with the junk that was existing in this house, and another dumpster is being delivered on Thursday?
Nasty....IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT!

I did it! I sent my baby to kindergarten! And...she loved it!

A started 2nd grade, and he is counting the hours until he gets to go back. His teacher is very creative and eccentric. He is going to thrive in her classroom.

Can I just say that I love this photo?

This is the face that found me this afternoon.

A difficult milestone for me, but I loved watching my children start these new chapters in their lives. Chapters that God has written just for them!

A Grouchless Vacation

Before spending countless hours in the car with my family, I devised a plan.

I printed 4 Oscar faces onto card stock. A and O colored them and attached them to a bag.
If anyone in the car was caught griping, complaining, or arguing, a piece of trash was placed in his/her Oscar bag.
The person with the most trash had to buy the rest of the bunch ice cream.
It worked great!
I know that you can't wait to find out who bought the sweet treat.....mom and dad!

A Busy Weekend in My Craft Closest

Our church has been blessed with an OVER-FLOWING nursery this year. I was in need of adorable, personal, inexpensive gifts.
Can you guess what I made? Yep...bows and bow holders!

I picked up 10 of these wooden plaques at a garage sale last year for $1.00 total. I spray painted 4 of them pink. I then hand-painted roses, added an initial, stapled ribbon, and added a bow. I managed to only use things that were already in my craft closest. It was also great that 3 of the beautiful baby girls' names started with the letter E. (Elsie, Eloise, Ella)

The kiddos and I have attended a wonderful Bible study this summer. It has been such a blessing to me. Two sweet preteen girlies were in charge of childcare. They were precious. I decided to make them a little chalkboard memo board and a few bows. (of course)

I picked up 3 of these stones at Hobby Lobby on clearance for $0.22.

I added spray paint, chalkboard paint, and hot pink zebra stripes.

Believe it or not....I still have many gifts to make!

We slept in on Saturday, but I still managed to find a few fun must-haves. :)

Don't ya just love this color combination? Anything turquoise catches my eye these days. I am certain that this enormous piece of pink lace will come in handy for birthday parties.

Owls are all the rage. Wouldn't this vintage mail holder be adorable in a nursery holding fun board books or blankets?

This book was written with a vintage Shasta in mind! So fun!

There is a high chance that our camping adventures may end this exact same way!

My Sweet Scotty and I picked this dresser up off the curb several years ago. I loved the vintage design. It has been in the corner of the storage room where it served as my wrapping station. We drug it out, cleaned it up, gave it a fresh coat of paint, and moved it into our room.

Now I need to figure out how to decorate the wall above it without spending any money. I am sure that it will involve a few old windows that I have stashed in the basement.

Garage Sale Bust

I am always sharing my garage sale bargains. However, I seldom share when I make a garage sale mistake.

This past Saturday I discovered this dress at a sale for $4.00
and this one.

They still had tags. I loved the fabric and design, but I knew that they would not fit by body style. I bought them anyway secretly thinking that I could just add a belt. (It makes them too short.) Anyhoo...it was $8.00 wasted.

At the same sale, I purchased this.

It is perfect, and I have already worn it.

All of that to say, most of the time I win, but sometimes I lose.

I am looking to give a few dresses away. They are gorgeous and a size M.

Imperfections

As I read through various blogs, I am bombarded with the idea of a "perfect" woman, mother, wife, writer, crafter, decorator, and Christian.
I must say that I often feel inadequate. I have even found myself discouraged and determined to join this elite group.
However, I am quickly reminded that we all determine what others see and read.
Who really wants to write about a messy house, screaming toddler, or failed craft project?
In case you have ever placed me in the category (insert laughter), I have written a few things to clear the air.

*If I don't wear prescription deodorant, I will have sweat rings before 10 a.m.

*I have actually found ants in my car. (gross....but true)

*My dog will not eat if Sweet Scotty isn't home.

*I buy things (usually @ Hobby Lobby) that I don't need.

*I start things and don't finish them.

*I let food spoil ALL of the time.

If you know me well, you are probably adding to the list even at this very moment.

Oh. My children don't always get along. In fact, yesterday I asked them to paint a picture of our home and family. Let's just say...they had different visions. The project ended quickly with screaming and made reference to the Red Hats and Blue Hats (Gnomeo and Juliet). FAIL on 2 counts, and that was just a portion of yesterday morning.

A's Room Maveover

Lately I have been feeling frustrated with A's room.
I came to the conclusion that we needed to buy all new furniture and carpeting.
However, it didn't take too long for me to realize that those things didn't match our budget and current life goals.
So, I decided to think outside the box and make do.
We managed to spend less than $60 to make his room more functional and cute.
Here are a few before photos...

A is a CRAZY sleeper, and the twin bed was just too small for him.
He was also in desperate need of a new mattress.
We moved the full size bed from the guest room into his room, and I purchased new bedding.
(I just couldn't convince him that the flowered bedding would work.)
The dresser in his room was an adorable antique, but he couldn't easily open and close the drawers.
We gave him our dresser, and we then repurposed a dresser that we picked up off the curb for our room.
More to come on that later.

We designed and made this headboard from a piece of wood that Scott purchased for $12.

Problem solved without spending much, and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out.
Once again, I realize that it is possible to be content with what you already have.

Let's see. I have a thing for embroidered pillowcases, aprons, red handled utensils, and (my newest obsession) vintage dresses!

I have actually worn this piece of American history.
Don't tell my nieces, but we are going to have a photo shoot REALLY soon!

Sweet Scotty and I went to countless garage sales this weekend.
In fact, we filled up both of our cars with treasures.
I decided to share 3 of my favorite finds.

A super sweet photographer gal that I know collects vintage cameras. I couldn't resist purchasing this Polaroid for her.

I am suddenly in love with vintage clothing and jewelry (more to come later).

I attended my very first Pampered Chef party this winter. (Yes. I live under a rock.)
I wanted this slicer, but it was $60.
Imagine the excitement when I found it new in the wrapper in the box for $20.

Another Whimsical Bouquet

I decided to try something different for O's recital bouquet.
She was in desperate need of fresh new hair bows, and if you know O, you know that she LOVES candy.
She was surprised and elated to discover this waiting in her seat.
My favorite part is that it will not end up in the trash in a few days, and I spent about $2.50.
Hopefully pieces of it will end up in her hair! (notice the word hopefully)

Anxiety

My greatest anxiety as the mother of a beautiful girl is my lack of experience with anything girly. I feel completely overwhelmed by the idea of styling of her hair.

Imagine my being handed a sheet of paper detailing how her hair was to be styled for her very first dance recital.

Let's just say, I didn't sleep well for several weeks.

For picture night, I had it professionally done, and I watched every move that the stylist made and asked far too many questions.

Well, today was the much anticipated event. I am proud to report that I DID IT!
I graduated from college with a 4.0 and birthed a 9lb 13oz baby boy, but this now tops my accomplishment list.

Thank you God for my precious daughter, and the opportunity to learn new things!

Under the Sea Fingerprint Turtle Stepping Stone

For my preschool's annual Mother's Tea, I needed to come up with a fun, memorable gift for each mother to take home.

I decided to use cheap landscaping stones which cost less than $1.00.

I designed this fun under the sea stone using the student's hand print for coral and thumbprints for turtles.

It proved to be a little too time consuming, but I love how it turned out.

This little man was proud of it too!

Needless to say, I have spent countless hours creating fun learning tools and games for my precious students.

I thought that I would share one with y'all.

I visited a new party supply store this week.

(Let's just say, it is a slice of heaven for us creative folks.)

I discovered this cute, spotted, laminated chick for $.99.

I bought 4, added sticker uppercase letters, printed off a set of lowercase letters, purchased a bag of yellow pom-poms, and now I have an adorable bingo game for spring.On a side note, isn't my boy the cutest?

Decorating for Spring

I decided that it was time to bring some color into our home for spring!

When Andrew brought this painting home from school, I developed a plan.

(I spray painted a thrift store frame with lovely orange spray paint that I purchased for $1.oo)
While working in Chicago, I observed a class watercolor a vase of flowers for a Mother's Day gift.
They were beautiful, and I filed that idea away. (Thanks Tricia B.)
I purchased actual watercolor paper, gave my children brief instructions, and encouraged them to paint with their basic watercolor set from Wal-Mart.
I then went back and drew in the flowers with a Sharpie.
I am confident that A could have done this, but he was a little nervous.

I actually tried this with my 18 preschoolers (my co-teacher thought that I was crazy and adventurous), and they all turned out unique AND beautiful.

Crafted Items for School Fundraiser Auction

These items would also make great Mother's Day gifts!(The flowers are student fingerprints.)

A Valentine Canvas

I paid $1.00 for this canvas last week.

I painted it bubble gum pink with basic acrylic paint. I then free handed a large heart and gave A and O a palette of pink, purple, red, and white paints.

I was incredibly impressed with how they worked together to create a masterpiece without any suggestions or input from me.

Is it necessary to say that I LOVE IT?!?

A valuable piece of art for $1.00.

Living Room

I have been busy de-cluttering and redecorating my living room.

I would LOVe to have new furniture, but that just isn't a "need".

I wanted a creative shelf. I had an old ladder that had been sitting in the garage (driving Sweet Scotty crazy).

We (Sweet Scotty) cut the ladder in half and added small nails to create a ledge.

It makes a perfect shelf. (well, that is my opinion)

Valentine Paper Heart Collage

We have experienced an unusual amount of snow which equals an unusual amount of snow days.

Needless to say, I have been busy entertaining my sweet, precious darlings.

I found a frame that I had recently spray painted pink in a box headed to the Goodwill, and instantly knew that we could use it to create beautiful art.

I free handed two hearts onto cardstock.

I then cut "Valentine" paper into 1 inch strips.

My children were asked to tear the paper into smaller pieces and glue them onto the heart. They turned out beautifully, and each one of my children's personalities is represented.
Not to mention...it kept them busy for 20 minutes!

I quickly removed the fake stained glass. .
I then sprayed painted the frame and added some beautiful scrapbbook paper, a mini-clothespin, and an antique photo.

Diamonds in the Rough

I have been on the search for new lamps.

I spotted these beauties at a local thrift store a few weeks ago for $10.

Honestly, I couldn't decide if I liked them or not. (They are definitely different!)

After searching countless stores and not finding anything 'original', I made the purchase even with a skeptical husband.

I love everything with the exception of the gold accents.

Our house was built in the early 70's. It isn't extremely large, but the "cool" thing was to have a formal living room, a formal dining room, and a family room. The room pictured in the photos is the actual 'dining' room. However, it just wasn't working for us. It is now our reading room.

I moved a few things around and got crafty! I bought a bag of antique buttons at a garage sale this summer for $.25. The kiddos and I used the buttons, burlap, and a re-purposed frame to create this unique piece of art.
I added burlap, a few clips, and black and white family photos to a frame.

My brother salvaged these windows from his neighbor's remodel. I added a piece of board to the back (for durability), burlap, mini clothespins, and photos of my darlings.

I LOVE the way it turned out, and it didn't cost a PENNY!

Where have I been?

-I have been enjoying every possible second with these creatures. -I (along with my sweet Scotty) have been cleaning, painting, and fixing up our very first rental property (pictured below). We finally took the plunge, and God has truly blessed us with the sweetest renters.
-I have been teaching 18 crazy, yet adorable preschoolers.
-I have been researching homeschooling.
-I have been fostering my face-to-face relationships.
-I have been mentoring.
-I have been redecorating.
-I have been removing clutter and simplifying. I have taken countless (double digits) SUV loads of clutter to my local thrift stores.
-AND...believe it or not....I have been READING...a lot!

A Simple Lunch

This past week, I was given a life-changing opportunity to serve at a beautiful Kid's Camp in the Lake of the Ozarks (approximately 440 children were in attendance).

My job for the week was overseeing the garbage cans in an attempt to save all utensils, cups, and trays. I was also responsible for launching the bags of slop (for lack of a better word) over a balcony in hopes that they would land safe and sound in a dumpster located several feet below.

(I did miss once, and it wasn't pretty.)

I watched how a variety of people responded so differently to simply serving God's precious.

Needless to say, I have been contemplating "serving" ever since. God's command is for me to serve ALL those I come in contact with, including the 3 precious gifts that live in my own home (my dog and cat are NOT included in this number). I sometimes lose sight of this command and am often guilty of indifference and halfheartedness.

As I contemplated this realization, a woman...a mother...was brought to my mind. A mother who simply served her beloved son by packing him a simple lunch of 5 loaves and 2 fish which Jesus blessed and used to feed thousands.

(She isn't actually mentioned in the Bible, but in my mind's eye, there had to be an organized, loving mother involved.)

In her mind, she was simply serving her child without thought of recognition or praise. Jesus used that mother's servant hood to perform a great miracle.

We may never be recognized or even acknowledged for serving on this Earth, but we will never know how God uses our simply acts of servant hood and sacrifice to touch the lives of thousands.

Dear Heavenly Father,

I ask that you will teach me what it means to be a true servant. Help me to never lose sight of the importance of serving my family, friends, and strangers. Help me prepare A and O for all that you have planned for them.

For as long as I can remember (long before our treasures arrived), Scott has been fighting the urge to purchase this...Last week, he decided to bite the bullet and order it.

Boy, have they enjoyed listening to this Singing Song Book.

Scott has devised a check-out system, and he is playing the role of the grouchy librarian.

This is a great resource, and you don't have to purchase EVERY Psalty cd ever made.

(Scott just had to.)
The cds are full of great sing-along harmonies.

More Bows

A Thrifty Gift For My Momma

My mother doesn't want for much.

However, she spotted this lunch bag that I purchased at a garage sale for $1.00, and it was obvious how much she loved it.

I simply stenciled her name the old fashioned way with an Xacto knife.

She is no longer wanting for a fun lunch bag.

I also made something similar for my friend Nancy.

I found a fun bag at the thrift store for $1.99 and stenciled a large N.
I only wish that I would have taken a photo.

Who wouldn't love to have a personalized bag?

Maybe I will have one someday!

Antique Frame Turned Bow Holder

I purchased this adorable antique frame for $1.00 at the Nashville Flea Market in October.

I couldn't decide what it was to become until yesterday when I became fed-up with our "bow situation".

I added 2 strips of rustic ribbon.
Problem solved for $0.
This would work with a basic frame too!

I have been extremely bored lately.

Everyone is getting older, more independent, and believe it or not...more helpful.

(Even the puppy).

Don't get me wrong...My to-do list is still overflowing with the mundane, everyday, constant tasks of taking care of my home and family.

With that said, I have decided to start pushing myself to try new (to me) things and activities.

This week, I decided to mow the grass.

A's response to this decision was, "You are GOING TO DO WHAT?"

He even put down the Wii remote to watch.

I am certain that the subdivision was all a buzz because everyone seemed to glance towards our yard and smile. I know you are curious...I did it!

I mowed our 1/4 of an acre and kept thinking to myself, "Who's idea was it to plant of all this junk everywhere?"

(I know my sweet Scotty loves me!)

There were a few minor bumps along the way, and I did yell, "Bring the woman who birthed you a glass of Gatorade before she perishes."

Our grass is mowed, and it looks lovely (well, kind-of like a preschooler mowed it, but that really isn't the point).

It was nice to accomplish a task and know that there will not be a small child behind me to undo all of my hard work.

So...it is done until next Saturday.

Scott wrote about it on our family blog.

Lies

I am going to be transparent...really transparent...for a moment or 2.

Consider yourself warned!

I have been in a FUNK. Maybe, I should call it a mild depression or minor life crisis.

(Don't worry. I have spoken with my physician.)

Sharing my struggles with other women has allowed me to realize that Satan uses the same lies to distract the majority (if not all) of us women.

Here are a few lies that have been haunting me for far too long:

-I am unlovable.

-I am bound to fail.

-I am an awful mother.

-I don't have any friends.

-I talk too much.

-I don't say enough.

-I am not good at anything.

-My appearance needs work.

Crazy? Of course.

Yesterday, I overheard one of my favorite women say,

"If only I were good, really good, at one thing!"

I could have instantly created a lengthy list detailing the traits/talents that I admire about her.

With all of that said, I am not posting this to receive encouragement or affirmation of any kind.

I just want you to know that you are not alone.

God has a different, perfect plan for each one of us.

He loves us...imperfections, shortcomings, and all.

Please don't believe the lies!

This is one of Olivia and my favorite summer accessories....monogrammed bloomers.

She loves to wear dresses, but she hasn't quite mastered the art of being lady-like.

I mentioned this dilemma to my friend Jenny, and she shared that she actually sells monogrammed bloomers.

(She wears them so much that I am thinking about investing in another pair.)

Sweet and Simple Scrapbooks

Hello, my name is Michelle, and I am a recovering perfectionist.
Have I mentioned this before?
Occasionally, I find myself alone and slowly wandering around the scrap booking aisles at Hobby Lobby.

Oh...the possibilities!

However, reality and the quest for a simpler life quickly end the paper-filled daydream.

You see...scrap booking and perfectionism aren't friends.

For the past few years, I have focused on "simple" scrap booking (beautiful photos, pretty paper, and heart-felt journal entries-NO EMBELLISHMENTS)

I love the fancies, but they don't fit into my schedule or budget.

That is why I have decided to post a few photos of a mini-mini-album that I put together for my grandmother.

I picked up this incredibly simple album at a garage sale for a dime; added a few photos and journal entries; tied on a pretty bow; and mailed it to my grandma.

Simple, sweet, and perfect for my treasured, sentimental grandma.

Keeping it simple allowed me to turn an intention into a reality.

This Week's Good Deals

The only positive to the location of Scott's office is that it is extremely close to the Croc and Children's Place Outlet stores.

Skipper has managed to destroy 2 pairs of A's Crocs in the past 4 days.

Needless to say there was a heart-felt discussion, and daddy made a trip to the Croc store.

(We can not manage a summer without Crocs. We get REALLY muddy!)

He ventured into Children's Place, and managed to purchase the stack of clothing pictured below for $11.88.

(And $2.99 of the $11.88 was spent on the pink skirt that he thought O MUST have.)

I will be adding a cute shirt to a number of boy b-day gifts this fall/winter.I found this fun bread box in my father's barn.

Don't ask.....I have no idea where he finds all of his treasures!

Thankfully, he is ALWAYS willing to share with me.

On my way to a meeting at A's school, I noticed a local nursery was advertising a buy 1 get 2 free sale on all of their plants. (annuals, perennials, and vegetable)

I purchased all of the following plus 3 vegetable plants for $8.28.

The square planters of geraniums were 3 for $5.00. Blessings, blessings, blessings!

Gardening on a Budget

This year, I decided to spend my slim gardening budget creating a raised vegetable garden.

Meaning: No money for lovely annuals or perennials.

We are taking advantage of lasagna gardening.

We purchased opened bags of top soil, mulch, and manure at our local chain hardware store for 50%-85% off.

We have learned that discussing a store's "open-bag" policy is helpful.

You can get a great deal, and the warehouse can rid themselves of damaged merchandise.

(You will find us shopping for gardening materials late on Sunday afternoons.)

I have also learned to ask fellow gardeners for starts/clippings.

This is always a thrill for a seasoned gardener, and thrifty to boot.

I had resolved to the fact that my flower garden would not be busting with beautiful color this summer.

However, I visited my lovely grandmother yesterday, and she sent me home with this cup FULL of purple vinca. I am now confident that my garden will be bursting with lovely, vivid blooms for free.

I haven't been to my favorite thrift store in a long time.

In fact, the lovely ladies who operate the store commented on how long it has actually been.

Yes...they know me by name.

(It is because of my personality...not my frequent visits :))

Anyhoo...here is what I purchased for $20.75. I L-O-V-E this adorable folding bench that cost $15.00.

Scott even approved of this purchase.
I find myself loving this blue/turquoise color.
This cake plate has already found a home in my kitchen.
Candle stick?
All it needs is a fun coat of paint (maybe orange).

I planned on purchasing fake flowers for hair bows this morning.

I found 6 flowers and an adorable white vase for $1.00. Woo Hoo!!!

I enjoy nothing more than finding whimsical decorations for cheap!

Teacher Gifts-Take 3

I decided to make a few display boards for several of A's teachers.

I purchased 4 boards from Hobby Lobby and 3 pieces of coordinating scrapbook paper.

I started by spray painting the boards black.

I then cut the paper into strips and modge podged them onto the board in an interesting pattern. I then made another rosette and attached it to a spray painted mini-clothespin.

I learned that you can make 4 using 3 12X12 sheets of scrapbook paper. Total spent to make 4 boards: $6.00 for boards + $10.00 for stands (50% off at Hobby Lobby) + $1.00 for paper + $.20 for rosette materials=$17.20

I will clip a thank you note written by A on each one.
Imagine the possibilities!

Teacher Gifts-Take 2

Since reading this tutorial, I have been making a lot of these adorable rosette clips.

They are SO easy and inexpensive!

I have been clipping them to basic headbands to dress up a simple outfit.

I decided to make a few for my teaching partner and the office manager (angel) at A's school.

I bought this set of three headbands at Wal-Mart yesterday for $3.74.

It included a solid black, black with white stripes, and brown. I made a variety of flowers and glued them to alligator clips.

A fun gift for someone special....costing less than $2.00 per gift!

Who wouldn't want an interchangeable headband?

Preschool Teacher Gifts

Our gift budget for the year has dramatically decreased.

I have to be more creative as the end of the school year quickly approaches.

Earlier this year, I decided to make a personalized apron to wear while teaching preschool.

It was quite a hit with my fellow teachers.

I decided to make the "butterfly" teachers a personalized apron to say "thank you" for loving on my O this year.I bought the apron at Wal-Mart for $3.00.

I then created super-simple butterfly and name stencils.

O even did quite a bit of the painting herself.

I finished it off with a chocolate bar and a pink bow.

Total spent for 2 teacher gifts-$6.00 for aprons+ $1.20 for chocolate bars+$.94 for bright pink paint=$8.14

Summer Saturday mornings translate into momma's alone time.

I paid $5 for this adorable hand-made quilt for O's room.

Good-bye fleece...hello vintage character. I paid $.50 for this adorable chair.

I can't wait to be invited to a baby shower.

I can envision it painted an adorable color and personalized to match a nursery.

I picked up these brand new Sleeping Beauty items for $5.00 each.
Aurora is O's favorite princess.

I will be saving them for Christmas!

I think that they may end up hanging in A's room.

Another Bunny Disappears

This sweet bunny has been hanging on our front door since March 1st.

It was definitely time for a change.My mother bought me this ceiling tile pocket several years ago.

I bought two sets of the yellow flowers at Hobby Lobby for a total of $4.00.

I had leftover burlap from a previous project.

After putting it together, I decided that it needed a little personalization.

So...I added a black and white family photo and a weathered clothespin.

(Note to self-weatherize more clothespins)

I am thinking that I need some texture/color behind the photo.

However for $4.00...it will do!

Weekend Finds

Saturday, we participated in our subdivision garage sale.

I was so thrilled to empty our basement and vowed to NEVER fill it with junk again.

My kiddos begged for hours to visit the garage sales on our street.

I reluctantly agreed.

To my surprise, I found a few treasures for mere pennies.

I paid $.25 for this box/basket.
This suitcase was $.50. I love the tag!
I wonder where it has traveled!
I paid $2.00 for this adorable picnic basket.
There will be many picnics this summer!

Well....I am pretty sure that the basement will be full again next April!

I consider myself a knowledgeable source on many things.

For example:

-how to gain 60+lbs during pregnancy 2 times

-how to clothe a family of 4 for less than $1200/year

-How to turn trash into treasure

-how to create a relationship with your sibling in which he/she will comment, "You drive me crazy, and I don't really like you. But...I will always love you."

-how to raise children who refuse to speak to any adult who is not an immediate family member

This list could go on..and on...

However, I would NEVER think to add gardening to that list.

Without realizing it, I think that I may have become a gardener.Signs That You May Have Crossed Over into the World of Gardening:

(It isn't just for little old women who don't watch T.V.)
1.) You are asked to join a garden club.

2.) You can carry on a conversation with your "gardener" mother about plants/flowers, understand every word, and have something to add.

3.) You get as excited about a plant catalog as you do about a Pottery Barn catalog.

4.) A well-known gardener/teacher at your son's school donates several buckets of perennials for a silent auction, and you already have 11 of the 12 plants.

5.) You can identify plants that are less than 2 inches tall.

6.) People call or knock on your door to ask for gardening advise or plant identification.

Six checks...it must be true.

Seven years, seven new flower beds, and countless hours of reading and learning...I am a gardener.

Thanks mom for teaching me all that I know, and for blessing me with such wonderful, beautiful plants!

I can't wait to plant annuals in a few weeks. Bring on the color!

Dollar Store Preschool Lessons

I decided to share a few of the activities that I do with O and my preschool students using materials that I have purchased at the Dollar Tree.

I used the cut-out shapes to create an upper and lower case alphabet matching activity.

We lay out the elephants, choose an apple, name the letter, and find its match.
I also used bus shapes to practice putting the numbers in order.
I numbered the buses 1-10.
I tell O that the bus drivers are so confused, and that they have to line up in the right order.

Sometimes, we use buttons to represent children. Each bus carries the appropriate number of children. (bus 2 carries 2 children)

I purchased a large bag of sea animals and this gigantic dice.

We roll the dice and count out that same number of animals.

Whoever has the most creatures in the end wins.

O loves to sort the creatures by color and "family".

Dollar Deals

I visited my local Dollar Tree a few days ago, and I found several great deals.

I have plans to decoupage the wooden plaques using lovely paper for end of the year teacher gifts.

These black frames are made great unlike many of the frames that frequent the dollar store shelves.

I only gave $1.00 for each of the linen candles at Michael's. They are cracked, but I don't intend to burn them. I plan to use them with my Spring decorations.Just thought that I would share...now I need to get to work!

Scrapbooking with my Kiddos

When defining goals for myself for 2010, I decided that I want to spend more time documenting the "everyday" moments of our lives.

Scrap booking Sunday became a family-building activity in our home last night.

I had 2 other willing participates.

In fact, they were SUPER-DE-DOOPER excited to get started!

How hard could it be to scrapbook with a 4 and 6 year old?

After all....I manage to craft with 18 4 year olds two days a week. And..these 2 precious children were birthed by me.

Let's just say that it was SUPER-DE-DOOPER difficult.

In fact, I will just keep the comments to myself.

However, A and O loved it!

When I went to tuck A in for the night, he was glancing lovingly at the one completed set of pages in his book. He had also created a list of possible page ideas.

Scott only shook his head and said, "His wife is really going to love him!"
On my pillow last night rested a precious note from my precious A, and it read, "I love you mom!"

It was worth the test of my peace and patience!

Hopefully...Spring Shower

We thoroughly enjoyed the warm, spring-like weather that we experienced this weekend.

It was exactly what I desperately needed.

We spent a great deal of time outside.

We weren't even disappointed with the quick cool shower that we experienced Sunday afternoon.

I didn't get the Easter photos taken, but the photographer in me was happy to capture these precious shots of my sweeties singing in the rain.

Wooden Bunny...$2.00

A few weeks ago I purchased a wooden bunny on a wooden stand for $2.00 at a local thrift store.

I knew exactly what I wanted to do with this bunny.

I used some Modge Podge and scrapbook paper to transform him into an Easter photo holder.

My lofty goal is to take some beautiful Easter photos this weekend!

Don't tell my children!

One of my friends just had a baby girl, and they named her Jasmine. After seeing photos of her adorable nursery, I was inspired to use the wooden base to make a personalized hair bow holder. If only I could make some darling hair bows to go with it.....

I only wish that I would have taken a before photo.

My blog has definitely taken a back seat, but my family is riding in style!
